In 2025, the Cairo 52 Legal Research Institute cemented its position as the MENA region’s leading defense against escalating digital surveillance and morality enforcement, providing critical legal support to 187 beneficiaries.
Key Highlights:
- Radical Inclusivity: We operate the region’s only legal aid unit that defends anyone targeted under vice and cybercrime legislation. By representing queer individuals, cisgender women, and sex workers alike, we effectively dismantle state efforts to segregate marginalized communities.
- 84.1% Acquittal Rate: Representing 83 individuals across 63 cases, our courtroom efficacy is unmatched. We exposed a critical “Judicial Fracture,” achieving a 76.7% success rate at the appellate level and proving that state convictions—often based on fabricated evidence and unlawful surveillance—collapse under rigorous legal scrutiny.
- Comprehensive Protection: Beyond the courtroom, we assisted 100 individuals through our consultation unit. This included asylum navigation for 40 individuals, securing economic and medical justice (such as PLHIV pensions), and providing preventative defense for victims of digital extortion.
- Pioneering Strategic Litigation: We escalated the fight for Legal Gender Recognition and bodily autonomy to the highest authorities. Landmark 2025 efforts included filing an Individual Communication with the UN Human Rights Committee against Tunisia, engaging Bahrain’s Court of Cassation, and litigating pioneering healthcare cases against Egypt’s Ministry of Health.
Conclusion At Cairo 52, we do more than represent clients; we dismantle the legal frameworks of oppression. In 2025, we ensured that for 187 individuals, the law served as a powerful tool for liberation rather than a weapon of the state.
